Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS), sited amidst the pictureque backdrop of Laitkor valley in Shillong, was promoted in 1980. It was inaugurated by the then governor of the North Eastern States, L.P. Singh. Assam Rifles Public School is a premier boarding school for boys, with a few girls as day scholars. The school aims at “providing quality education to deserving children of JCOs, officers and personnel of Assam Rifles”, and its imposing infrastructure facilitates the same. Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, ARPS offers education from class IV to class XII and offers Science, Humanities and Commerce streams at the higher secondary level. The school is managed by the Assam Rifles Public School Society, a registered autonomous body under Society Act, 1960.
